Activities
Expected Output
As result of program's inputs and activities, certain outcomes or results are expected:

-Four UACH faculty members will start their graduate program at MSU (two masters and two PhDs) in the following areas: (i) Community Food and Agricultural Systems; (ii) Education, Communication and Leadership; and (iii) Educational Technology.

-Four UACH graduate students will complete their graduate program taking MSU courses via distance education or in-campus courses.

-Four applied research projects will be guided by MSU-UACH faculty teams.

-A Binational Virtual Center with current and reliable information on sustainable agriculture, organic production, value-added agriculture and marketing strategies.

-24 UACH faculties from eight Mexican states (Chiapas, Durango, Edo. de Mexico, Jalisco, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Yucatan, and Zacatecas) will participate in a fifteen-day learning experience in Michigan.

-20 UACH students with indigenous and rural background will participate in a 30-day exchange in Michigan (internship).

-225 small and subsistence farmers, extension agents, NGOs staff, local and regional government staff, UACH faculty or students will participate in a three-day short course in three Mexican states (Durango, Oaxaca, and Zacatecas).

-Two fifteen-day experiential learning trips in Michigan.

-Four publications on program's results in journals or books.

-New partnerships and social networks among MSU and UACH participants (educational and research teams).

-A network of participants who will take leadership to enhance sustainable food and farming systems in poor rural communities in Mexico.



The primary purpose of the partnership between MSU and UACH is to enhance the capacity of UACH to promote sustainable livelihood and equitable development in poor and marginal rural communities of Mexico. The strength of the partnership is embedded in the expertise and knowledge of their faculty and students to create alternative models of production, value-added agriculture, and in developing alternative marketing strategies.
