Lizette is a Southern California native, having moved to Michigan from Pasadena, where she was born and raised. She is the first person in her family to finish high school and go to college. Lizette graduated from MSU in 2015 with degrees in both Psychology and Spanish. After graduating, she spent a year with AmeriCorps teaching ESL at Peckham Inc, a nonprofit vocational rehabilitation organization that provides job training to refugees and persons with disabilities. She returned to MSU in 2016 to work on a Masters in Social Work and is completing her field training with CAMP, as a College Transitions Advisor. As an undergraduate, she worked as a medical interpreter and volunteered at various organizations teaching and assisting classes in English as a Second Language. As a graduate student, she has continued her service with AmeriCorps through Capitol Area Michigan Works, where she teaches job readiness skills in order to remove employment barriers.
